Six emergency medical personnel from Hughes County EMS and Community EMS have officially completed the Work Ready Ada program, securing the key workforce funding necessary to enroll in the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) program at Pontotoc Technology Center (PTC).

Housed on the PTC campus, Work Ready Ada is an employment readiness initiative designed to connect area workers with essential skills and funding pathways for high-demand technical training. The partnership between Work Ready Ada, PTC, and local emergency medical service providers creates a direct pipeline for active first responders to upgrade their clinical credentials.

“We want to recognize Pontotoc Technology Center for bringing key stakeholders together,” said, Cassie Burrows, Work Ready Ada Program Director. “Because of PTC’s vision to connect local workforce resources with specialized instruction, these emergency personnel are stepping into advanced training that will directly enhance life-saving care across our region.”

Completing prerequisite career preparation while serving on the front lines requires significant discipline. Hughes County EMS covers more than 900 square miles, demanding round-the-clock dedication from its personnel. By pursuing advanced certification while managing full-time, high-stress shifts, these graduates demonstrate an exceptional commitment to public safety.

“Choosing to upskill while actively working in emergency services is no small feat,” Burrows added. “It requires immense discipline, late-night study sessions, and a deep dedication to public health. We also extend our gratitude to Hughes County EMS for actively championing employee development. When local agencies unite to invest in people, the entire community benefits.”

With their Work Ready Ada requirements fulfilled, all six participants will begin coursework in PTC’s Advanced EMT program, where they will acquire enhanced skills in advanced airway management, intravenous therapy, and emergency pharmacology.
