One project = lots of skills! Our Service and Facilities Industries class is in the final stages of their most recent project of building and finishing a 4x2 wall that includes a wired outlet and switch. The project requires everything from initial 2x4 construction through to the tape, bed, and texture of the sheetrock. #TrainingToSucceed

NEW Barber program at Pontotoc Tech! The program will provide hands-on training with an expert instructor, preparing students to pass the state board licensure exam and succeed in a growing profession. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics employment in barbering is projected to grow by 8% from 2022 to 2032. This may be a great time to launch a career in this high-demand field. Pontotoc Technology Center is proud to announce the launch of its new evening Barber program, a unique opportunity for aspiring barbers to gain the skills and certification needed to enter a thriving industry. Designed with flexibility in mind, this program caters to working adults and those with busy schedules, offering evening classes to help students achieve their career goals. This program prepares students to provide technical assistance to computer users in various work environments. Students learn to repair, service, and troubleshoot personal computers and computer related equipment and to install and configure operating systems and application software. They also learn the basics of networking, including installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware peripherals and protocols, as well as network administration duties and providing support for network users. Students are trained to design, support and keep communications systems secure and learn to configure routers, switches, and maintain wide area networks. Our Practical Nursing students joined our Biotech class this morning as Biotech students present the process of cellular respiration and the creation of ATP ("the powerhouse of the cell"). The resulting collaborative discussion helped the students translate for each other what's happening at the cellular level into real-life healthcare scenarios (and vice versa).

EMT students Presleigh Fielder, Dominick Verdadero, Jacob Becklehimer, Braden Davis, Briley Humphers, Grayson Miller, Emma Skinner, and Ryan Wilson passed their EMR certification exams. Way to go! The next step will be to apply for a license to practice in the state of Oklahoma.



This week, we welcomed EOCTech's Automotive competition team for a friendly scrimmage to help students prepare for their upcoming competition. Both teams are looking great!

Thanks to Bob Billen with the Oklahoma Propane Education and Safety Commission for stopping by today to visit with our HVAC students about the propane equipment we added to our training this year. Among other things, he shared some of the differences and/or challenges professionals may encounter when in the field. The PTC HVAC program is a comprehensive training program preparing future HVAC professionals. "With the addition of propane to our curriculum, we hope to help with post-graduation propane installation licensing for students," said Michal Beach, PTC HVAC Instructor. We had the honor of hearing from Colonel Bill Langdon during our Veterans Day Assembly today. Colonel Langdon spoke to the students about his experiences in the military and offered encouragement for all who are bold enough to dream and brave enough to try.
