Safety Training Program

 

Pontotoc Technology Center Safety Training Program is designed to provide quality occupational safety training and services to public and private employers of our state. Our Safety Training program assists Oklahoma business and industry in our area in creating a safe work environment for their employee's, thus assisting the State of Oklahoma in reaching their goal of zero workplace injuries. Customized workplace safety training programs are offered based on employee or employer needs. Training is offered on-campus or at company sites. Lockout/Tagout

This introduction to Lockout/Tagout covers the hazards of uncontrolled energy,OSHA's six step procedure,work performance and removal of locks,tags and simulated problems in work environments.This information will help you and employers comply with OSHA's control of Hazardous Energy and Lockout and Tagging of Circuits Regulations.(OSHA 1910.147 and 1926.417)

Forklift Safety  

On December 1,1998 OSHA published the new standard for Powered Industrial Truck Operators.A comprehensive training program is important for preventing injury and death. Operator training addresses factors that affect the stability of the forklift,operator restraint systems,loading techniques,vehicle inspection and maintenance,safe operation practices and safe workplace practices.  

Blood-borne Pathogens  

This course will help you develop a program for controlling the transmissions of blood-borne pathogens in the workplace,understand the hazards and learn how to avoid personal contact and potential infection.OSHA requires a written exposure control plan be completed by all employers who have employees that may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens as part of their work activities.

Back Safety  

Your back is your foundation,it supports your entire body.Every year,more than 1 million workers hurt their back on the job;however,most back injuries are preventable.This course will provide practical tips for preventing back injuries including information on how your back works,proper lifting techniques and re-engineering the workplace to better suit our actions.

      CPR/First Aid

First aid,CPR and automated external defibrillation are programs that are designed to help you learn and remember lifesaving skills and knowledge.These programs are available for any age group and can be tailored to the needs of specific groups and individuals.Whether you work with children,want training for employees,are a professional rescuer,or simply want to know how to help in an emergency,we have a program for you.

Electrical Safety

This course covers electrical safety procedures and helps you comply with OSHA's Electrical Safety Standard (1910 - 331-335).It will introduce workers to the principles of electricity,show them how to avoid the dangers of electrical shock and demonstrate to them correct responses to electrical emergencies.Electrical principles,electrical hazards,engineering controls and safe work practices will be covered.

Hazardous Communication

The purpose of the hazard communication standard,also referred to as the Right-to-Know standard,is to communicate the potential health and safety hazards and safe work practices required for the chemicals used in your facility.You will cover hazard awareness,container labeling,MSDS sheets and safe work practices.One of the most commonly cited omissions by OSHA,hazardous communications is a must have course!

Fire Safety

Fire.It's the third leading cause of death in the U.S.,but people still underestimate it's danger.More than 150 fires occur in the workplace everyday.This course will help you understand the causes of fire,safe housekeeping measures and emergency response procedures.Develop your emergency action plan the right way.

  Safety Plan Development

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) sets a national minimum standard for safety, but allows local jurisdictions to adopt standards which are at least as stringent. As an employer, you are obligated to provide your employees a safe place to work. A published safety manual can be your best defense against lawsuits. It's a tangled mess of complicated laws, but we can help you sort it all out. Let us help you create a comprehensive, industry specific safety plan that complies with all applicable OSHA and state laws.

Personal Protective Equipment

How do you get workers to consistently and correctly wear appropriate protective equipment and to assist employers in complying with OSHA's PPE standards?This course motivates workers to wear their PPE to prevent disabling injuries caused by commonplace accidents.They will see the benefits of full body protection,safe work practices,learn about types of equipment that are available and recognize proper use and fit.

Welding Safety

Welding safety teaches your employees to recognize and respect the potential hazards and motivate them to use the best safety practices to prevent property damage and injury.The following topics will be covered:types of welding; potential hazards; purpose and importance of ventilation; proper personal protective equipment; purpose and procedures of a hot work permit ;fire prevention techniques; and special welding situations.

  Respiratory Protection

Exposure to airborne hazards can lead to serious health threats, including lung damage, cancer,heart disease, silicosis,asbestosis or other chronic illnesses.This course will help workers prevent respiratory illnesses and injuries.Topics covered include: hazardous atmospheres; types of respirators; fit testing, maintenance and inspection;decontamination and cleaning.

Heat Stress

This course teaches you how to prevent or treat heat disorders.Sunburns,heat rashes,exhaustion and stroke will be covered.Acclimitization processes are discussed as well as work procedures to avoid any type of heat stress.Prevention measures such as fluid intake,eating habits and clothing guidelines are stressed.

Hearing Conservation

Sensori - neural hearing loss can be prevented with proper testing, proper equipment and proper training. This course will help employees use use hearing protection properly and will help them understand the importance of utilizing hearing protection both on and off the job.Students will review noise exposure, hearing protection devices and the components of a hearing conservation program.

Violence in the Workplace

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,homicide is the number two cause of death in the workplace,number one for women.This course will teach you how to identify different types of violence,their causes,how to protect yourself and your coworkers,and why reporting workplace violence is extremely important.In the event that your company does not have a plan for dealing with crises,this course will head you in the right direction.
